Hyundai dealers running short of new Tucson crossover

While Toyota has been going through the wringer, Hyundai seems to be walking on water. Executives met with their dealers today in Orlando and it sounds like the news was mostly good, if not great.

The CEO of Hyundai Motor America, John Krafcik, crowed about the seven new models on the way. "The pipeline is bursting," he said. The new Sonata is so popular as an under-$20,000, high-mpg sedan that he says customers are literally buying them off the trucks arriving at dealers. The newTucson small crossover is in short supply, about the only gripe from dealers, who will be getting a lot of new models in coming months.

Next will come a new Elantra midsize sedan, a new Accent as the smallest and cheapest Hyundai and a new high-mileage, sporty coupe.

All the while, Hyundai has been picking up a greater share of the U.S. auto market. Market share has climbed to 4.1% of the U.S. market, having picked up a full percentage point in the last year. "The dealers are pretty enthusiastic," he says.
